About Temperature Scales
Temperature measures the degree of hotness or coldness. Different scales are used around the world:
- Celsius (°C): Part of the metric system, widely used globally. Water freezes at 0°C and boils at 100°C (at standard atmospheric pressure).
- Fahrenheit (°F): Primarily used in the United States. Water freezes at 32°F and boils at 212°F.
- Kelvin (K): The base unit of thermodynamic temperature in the International System of Units (SI). It uses the same magnitude increments as Celsius, but its zero point is absolute zero (-273.15°C), the theoretical point where all molecular motion ceases. Used mainly in scientific contexts.
Conversion Formulas:
- °F = (°C × 9/5) + 32
- °C = (°F - 32) × 5/9
- K = °C + 273.15
- °C = K - 273.15
